The Delhi government began work on eliminating 7,438 “dark spots” in the city on Saturday. CM Arvind Kejriwal termed it as a “big step” towards making Delhi “safer” for women.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has plans to install LED bulbs or tubes at the identified “dark spots” in the North and East Delhi areas. But since the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has not given a no-objection certificate (NOC) to the PWD, the government won’t be able to begin work on illuminating the dark spots in the area.

PWD minister Satyendar Jain inaugurated the project of installing lights in the Model Town area on Saturday. The dark spots were id-=entified by NGO Safetip-in, the government said.

“Dark spots being illuminated all across Delhi on war-footing. A big step for making Delhi safer for women,” the CM wrote on Twitter.
