A 24-year-old man was arrested for kidnapping a five-year-old boy who is a student at Vasant Public School in South Delhi.

According to a senior police official, the accused has been identified as Sabir Ali, a tenant of the victim’s father, who had hatched a conspiracy along with his wife Rinky and another person. “The victim lives with his parents at Masoodpur in South Delhi. The victim’s father earns close to Rs 1 lakh a month by putting his flats on rent. The accused had kidnapped the boy and had planned to make a ransom call,” said the police official.

At around 7.30 am on Wednesday, when the victim was just about to enter the school with his nine-year-old sister, Sabir and his wife Rinky came to kidnap him.

“Rinky took the girl aside on the pretext of offering her chips while Sabir whisked away the boy. His sister searched around for him and finally complained to her class teacher who notified the higher authorities. A search was conducted in the school and around 10.30 am a PCR call was made. The boy’s parents were also informed, ”said deputy commissioner of police (south district) Prem Nath.

A team was immediately formed under sub-inspector Neeraj Yadav who went to the school and checked the CCTV camera footage of the area. On showing the footage to the victim’s father, he recognised Sabir and his wife. The police went to Sabir’s house and arrested the two. “On interrogating Sabir, he said he had kept the boy at a friend’s house in southwest Delhi’s Kapasehra border and had planned to make a ransom call for Rs 5 lakh to the boy’s father,” said another police official.

The police recovered the boy from Sabir’s friend, who has been identified as Dolly Mondal. “Sabir does some small-time work but wears good clothes. He kidnapped the boy to get a lot of money easily,” said the police official. Sabir, Rinku and Dolly have been arrested under IPC Sections 363, 365 and 120B.
