For nomads and foodies
A journey through the gorgeous landscapes of South Africa and Zimbabwe and lip-smacking food, Sarah Graham’s Food Safari might just be your new favorite watch
Three countries, seven weeks, family, friends and a whole lot of food is how we can describe Sarah Graham’s Food Safari. The renowned South African food writer and cook takes us through Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa and its local cuisine in her new show. Sarah talks to us about her journey, food and India.
“I grew up in a wildlife conservancy in Zimbabwe and it’s always been a big part of my life. So filming with these beautiful backdrops was special. The bush was all about simple food and my mother was very clever with the local ingredients. That’s how I got interested in cooking. I have a very big family and we’d always cook extra food in case someone drove down to visit us,” says Sarah. She adds, “I moved to Cape Town in South Africa where I discovered new ingredients. I started writing about food in 2010 with a blog, then I wrote a book and filmed a pilot for my TV show and the rest is history.”
Talking about filming on a rigorous schedule she comments, “It was crazy because my children, my mother and occasionally my husband traveled with me. We would have to film for 12 to 14 hours but it was such a great adventure. My family was extremely supportive too.” She goes on to say, “The show is a beautiful journey through my favourite parts of the world and food. It’s full of colours, tastes and smells. I love local cuisine and cooking with those ingredients as well.”
She concludes by telling us her future plans, “I’m very excited to be filming in Kenya in November for the next season. I love Indian food (especially, coconut seafood curry and lamb curry) and I’d love to explore the country sometime!” We’re all for it, Sarah!
