The film, also starring Manoj Bajpayee and Prithviraj Sukumaran, released on March 31.

Mumbai: Shivam Nair's 'Naam Shabana,' hailed as India's first spin-off, had a lot of buzz running into its release.

The film, headlined by Taapsee Pannu, had such stalwarts as Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Akshay Kumar himself providing her able support.

However, the film couldn't open to the numbers that were expected of it.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, 'Naam Shabana' managed to gross approximately 5.12 crore rupees.

The numbers are predominantly owing to Akshay Kumar, who has an extended cameo in the film.

The film, is the second instalment in Neeraj Pandey's 'Baby' franchise.

The film entirely surrounds Taapsee's character, who had an acclaimed cameo in the first part.

It remains to be seen if the film manages to build on the opening and comes out a profitable venture for all parties concerned.
