My father won't give compliments for free, says Ranbir Kapoor

The film, written and directed by Hirani, will be opening up facets of Sanjay Dutt's personal as well as public life, on the big screen.

One of the most awaited bio-pics of the year Sanju with Ranbir Kapoor playing Sanjay Dutt is set to hit the theatres by the end of June. Since the teaser of the film was released it has gathered rave reviews and has left everyone eager to see Ranbir as Sanjay Dutt.

Though he has received overwhelming response for his portrayal of Dutt, Ranbir is emotional about one particular response. The one from his father Rishi Kapoor who didn’t tell him this in person, but was conveyed through director Raj Kumar Hirani.

“Besides being my father, he is also an actor I really admire and respect. He never tells me to my face that I have done good work, not that I expect it. But when you hear such words coming from him, it is incredible. It really moved me and made me emotional,” said Ranbir.

“Every father wants their son to do well, but my father is very careful that he won’t give compliments for free,” he added.

Stumped by his father’s response, Ranbir says his mother, Neetu Kapoor, is his all-time fan. “My mother is my biggest fan. Whatever I do she loves it. When she saw Bombay Velvet she thought it was the greatest film in the world,” said the Barfi actor.

And after Saawariya, this will be the second film where Ranbir has gone nude. Reacting to this he said, “I went nude in my first film (Saawariya) when my towel dropped. I am very shy in real life but when the cameras are on, I am not shy as I am portraying a character. You have to be nude in your emotions and physically.”

The film, written and directed by Hirani, will be opening up facets of Sanjay Dutt’s personal as well as public life, on the big screen. Sanju also features Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja among others. It is slated for a June 29 release.
