Hate Story is the fastest growing franchise in Bollywood

When Hate Story 4 finally releases in March, it’s set to become the fastest Indian franchise to reach four instalments of a film. Indeed, there have been three other franchises to reach the four film mark earlier — Vikram Bhatt’s Raaz series, 1920 series, and the Rohit Shetty helmed Golmaal series. However, Hate Story is setting the record with its quick pace of release.

The first part of the movie was directed by Vivek Agnihotri in 2012. Vishal Pandya then replaced him as the director for the other parts, with Hate Story 2 in 2014 and Hate Story 3 in 2015. It’s been three years since the third part released, but all the movies have released in seven years.

Urvashi Rautela, who plays a supermodel in Hate Story 4, says, “Yes, it is the fastest franchise in Bollywood, and I’m very proud and lucky to be a part of it.”

Interestingly, two more franchises are about to go up to the fourth movie mark in the next two years, one of which is the Sajid Nadiadwala produced Housefull 4, which releases in 2019. The Krrish franchise, which started off as Koi Mill Gaya in 2003 has seen two sequels in the form of Krrish in 2006 and Krrish 3 in 2013. Rakesh Roshan has announced Krrish 4 will release by the end of 2020, and so the franchise’s four movies have appeared in a whopping 18-year time frame.
