The stars seem to have aligned well for Anees Bazmee’s Mubarakan, which has gone on to become the surprise hit of the week.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh reports that the movie opened on Friday at Rs 5.16 crore and on Saturday the collections had grown to Rs 7.38 crore. On Sunday, they leaped to a whopping Rs 10.37 crore. The growth at the box office from Friday to Sunday was a staggering 100.97 per cent.

And now, within a short span of time, the Mubarakan team is ready to work on a sequel to the movie. That’s right. The irrepressible boisterousness of the Punjabi joint family in London will reunite real-life uncle and nephew, Anil and Arjun Kapoor, and most of the vast cast.

Anees could barely contain his excitement. “Yes, we’re going to go ahead with a sequel to Mubarakan,” he said. “The characters have been so unconditionally embraced by the audiences. Jee haan, thoda sa waqt laga raftaar pakadne mein (the film took a while to catch on). That was because this was comedy without vulgarity. We don’t have that any more in Hindi cinema. Family comedies died with Hrishikesh Mukherjee,” he smiled.
