Indiscipline keeping Kamal Haasan away from B-town

Kamal is currently in Mumbai to promote his upcoming action film Vishwaroopam II, which hits silver screens on August 10.

Though Kamal Haasan has made his mark in Bollywood by being a part of some iconic films like Chachi 420, Sadma, and Saagar, he’s largely stayed away from the Hindi film industry and chosen to focus on south Indian films. Ask him why he’s avoiding the industry, and he says, “Because of the indiscipline. They take two to three years to make a film, and I have a short life. Hindi cinema may be a big deal, but actors have short lives.”

He does say, though, that things are gradually changing for the better, “There is discipline now, which wasn’t there before. It is coming into the industry, but there’s still room for improvement,” he says.

The actor doesn’t see himself taking up any Hindi projects in the near future because he intends to devote his time to his newly-formed political party.

“I am a party president, and I am getting into it in a big way. I won’t say that it is more sacred than films, but right now, it’s time to give back to society,” the 63-year-old says.
