Trolls don't bother Ram Gopal Varma
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who creates a storm on social media with every tweet, says it’s strictly between him and his followers and it’s nobody’s business to intervene.
Ramu says, “Social media, especially Twitter, is between me and whoever chooses to follow me and others have no business to poke their noses in. If they don’t like what I say, they always have a choice to unfollow me. It is just an emotional expression.”
The director is also known to get trolled and criticised on the social platform but he says he doesn’t care. He says, “I don’t care. Today, thanks to social media, the only thing people like to do is criticise. In fact, at times when I don’t get criticised I get bothered; I feel like something is wrong. I got used to it a long time ago.”
Having said that, Ramu does want to water down his explosive rants. “I have taken an oath in the name of Lord Ganpati that I will not write anything negative about anyone. No more targeting anyone hereafter. I will be on the social media but I will write nothing negative,” he swears.
However, he does not believe that he will censor his use of abuses. “I think cuss words are just a way to express yourself. I may write some such words in a part of daily conversation while others avoid it. To each his own,” he states.
The director who is all set for the release of the third film of his Sarkar franchise in two weeks time, is not bothered by BO clashes or, indeed critics’ opinions.
“Whether you praise my films or give me a negative review, no one will be affected. People just want to know which films are releasing on Friday and if they feel like they want to watch a film, they will go and watch it. Usually, I just make my film and forget about it,” he says.
Though he’s promised to curb his candid statements online, Ramu is still far from subtle. So when asked if he would like to remake Rangeela or work with Aamir Khan ever again, he says, “Aamir doesn’t need a director. He is very advanced in his thought process and is focussed and passionate about his work. I, on the other hand, lack these qualities and so, a project like this can never happen. I will never work with Aamir Khan.”
