Raghava Lawrence returns to Laxmmi Bomb
Raghava Lawrence is back in the director’s chair with Laxmmi Bomb. He had previously opted out of the film after the filmmakers did not inform him of the film’s poster launch on social media. Akshay Kumar, who plays the lead in the film, had himself shared the poster on his social media handles, prompting Lawrence to leave the film.
The producers and Akshay refrained from commenting on the issue as they tried to salvage the situation. Lawrence had said that he would dissociate himself from the project, but would give the script to Akshay to make with a different director.
However, Akshay eventually did intervene. “Yes, it was Akshay sir who was there coordinating and making sure that the project was made. The film is a remake of Muni 2: Kanchana. Akshay sir will be playing the role that Sarath Kumar sir played in the original,” Lawrence had confirmed.
After the controversy erupted, producer Shabina Khan went to Chennai to make peace with Lawrence, and ensured that he was back on board for the horror-comedy film.
Muni 2 was about Karthik, alias Kanchana, a transgender woman who was killed by villains. He then comes back to possess a jobless youth, Raghava, who willingly allows him to do so to help him extract revenge from the villains.
Lawrence had written and directed the film, and is now using a Hindi translator for the dialogues. “The screenplay is locked the way it was in the Tamil version, and we only need a translation of the dialogues. We will start shooting mostly by the end of July,” affirms Lawrence.
