Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar's 2.0 to release on its scheduled date

The grand audio launch held in Dubai a week days back has turned the spotlight bright on Rajinikanth's 2.0

Mumbai: Following Akshay Kumar's official Twitter announcement about releasing his next social drama, R. Balki directed 'Padman', on Republican weekend in 2018, many people questioned if 2.0 is going to be pushed ahead. But seems like year 2018 is going to see the biggest and unusual clash at the box office. Padman and 2.0 are going to hit the screens on 25th January, 2018 and apparently Akshay Kumar stars in both the films. Lyca Productions Creative Head Raju Mahalnigam told Scroll.in, “As of now, the release date of the film is January 25. No change in that.”

Mahalingam asserted that 2.0 will keep its date and will be targeting at least 10,000 screens, making it one of the widest releases after Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017). “The movie will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, and in foreign languages after the Indian release,” he said. 2.0 will also be released in 3D, which won’t leave aside too many screens for Padman, the first solo Akshay Kumar release of 2018.

Reportedly, the makers are planning to release the teaser of the film at a grand event in Hyderabad, on 22 November, at the Shilpakala Vedika auditorium.

S. Shankar directed film features Rajinikanth reprising the roles of Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti, alongside Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson.

Surely 2.0 and Padman have very different stories to tell, but we think it will be good for both the film’s business not to release on same weekend.
