Playlists in focus on Spotify
Spotify has secretly tested and quietly released a new app for Android called Stations. The app is dedicated exclusively for quick and easy playlist and station listening. Stations is listed on Google Play Store. It offers an option to listen to music-based on genres and managed playlists.
The company explains it as the easiest way to listen to the music users love for free. The app’s design makes clear that Stations is designed to reduce the steps and taps necessary to get to a user’s favorite music.
Describing the app, Spotify says that it plays music instantly when opened. All the playlists are displayed in large font and stations can be easily changed by scrolling down the app.
Similar to Spotify’s feature there are personalisation features such as ‘Discover Weekly’ and ‘Release Radar’. That is the playlist is created once enough music has been played for it to gather data. No typing or searching is necessary to use Stations.
Users can customise the playlists that can appear on the main menu and hide others. However, they cannot create new ones within Stations.
The app is not yet compatible with mobile devices in the United States and many other countries.
The company also states that Stations is an 'experiment'.
It looks like it was built to attract users of the music app ‘Pandora’, which has millions of free users who are looking for minimum user input.
