Vishal Bhardwaj to adapt Twelfth Night

The fact that ace director Vishal Bharadwaj is a lover of William Shakespeare’s works is no secret. Having made three movies adapted from the dramatist’s works in the past, the filmmaker is now seeming to turn back to the centuries old literature, after his latest movie, Rangoon, has tanked at the box office.

A close source reveals that Vishal wants to try his hand at one of the Bard’s comedy works. “The National Award winning director has his eyes on Twelfth Night, a comedy written by Shakespeare in the 17th century. The play is still a favourite amongst literature lovers,” says the source. “The story is still under process and Vishal will surely add some Bollywood flavour to it.”

Some of Vishal’s biggest hits — Maqbool, adapted from Macbeth, Omkara from Othello and Haider from Hamlet — have come thanks to the dramatist’s works. Lately, his original screenplays in Rangoon and Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola have failed to impress the audience. It looks like Vishal’s heading back to the Bard for his next now.
