Sanjay Dutt to play Karim Lala?
Gangster films have captured the attention of Bollywood filmmakers and audiences for decades now. From the 1988 Vinod Khanna-starrer Dayavan to films like Company, Black Friday and D-Day — the industry has offered us a slew of mobster dramas over the years. And the most recent trend seems to be gangster biopics. After the Arun Gawli biopic Daddy, and Haseena Parkar, we’re soon going to be presented with the biopic of Karim Lala.
Lala, a Pashtun from Afghanistan, was responsible for the setup of an organised crime circuit in Mumbai along with Haji Mastan and Varadaraja Mudaliar. He also had a close connection with Bollywood, being a friend of Dilip Kumar’s. In fact, it was Lala who helped actress Helen get her money back from a P.N. Arora who had defrauded her.
Now, we may find out even more about his life and exploits.
“Adnaan Shaikh, a former assistant of Ahmed Khan, will be directing the film based on Karim Lala. It will be produced by Ahmed under his banner, Paperdoll Entertainment, and the makers are in talks with Sanjay Dutt to play the lead role,” a source reveals.
If Dutt does decide to take the project up, it won’t be his first time playing a gangster on screen. The actor was last seen in Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3.
