Kajol traces family roots
Kajol was very young when her grandfather Sasadhar Mukherjee passed away. Sasadhar was a part of Bombay Talkies and was one of the early birds at Filmistan Studios. Later, his family founded the Filmalaya Studios. And when a retrospective of his work was held recently, Kajol decided to take her son along to make him understand that how far cinema was in their roots.
“I got my son Yug along because I wanted him to know about his family and the work they have done in films. Daadu has done so much work in his life that I think I am too small to talk about his body of work,” says Kajol.
On a personal note, Kajol does not remember much about her grandfather. “I was too young then. But I always remember that he was always was in white – cap, dhoti and kurta. What I distinctly remember about him is the smell of the perfume he wore,” reminisces the actress.
Sasadhar produced films like Kangan, Bandhan, Jhoola, Aao Pyar Karen, and Leader among others. Incidentally, Kajol’s maternal grandmother Shobhana Samarth was also an actress, and the mother of Tanuja and Nutan.
