The latest bilingual biopic in the making at the moment is the one on Bal Thackeray, titled simply Thackeray. Being made in Hindi and Marathi — the film’s landing cost is expected to be '35 crore, which easily makes it an expensive proposition. “The film is being made in two languages so there will be two ‘negatives’ (films in two languages) and will be sold separately as different products. The Marathi version of the film is expected to cost around Rs 15 crore, which will make it the most expensive Marathi film ever made,” says a source about the film which sees Nawazuddin Siddiqui play the role of the late leader. Nawaz has also brushed up on his Marathi skills for the film and is being tutored constantly even on the sets.
Written and produced by Sanjay Raut, a senior Shiv Sena leader and the editor of the Sena mouthpiece Saamana, the film directed by Abhijit Panse, director of the acclaimed Marathi film Rege, Thackeray is being shot at various locations in Mumbai.
