Clash: SRK's film, Ranveer's Temper remake, Sushant's Kedarnath book same release date
Mumbai: The recent success of 'Golmaal Again' just showed how much a release during festive period can boost the collections.
With producers looking for a festival release date for their films, and with just 52 Fridays at their disposal, clashes have become inevitable at the box office.
While the last two big clashes at the box office, ‘Raees’ versus ‘Kaabil’, or ‘Golmaal Again’ versus ‘Secret Superstar’ didn't see any particular loser as such, there’s no denying the fact that the collections get divided.
And when two films at the box office are difficult to handle for the exhibitors to allot screens for, it seems they are set to face their biggest dilemma when three films are reportedly set to release on the Christmas weekend, 21 December next year.
While Shah Rukh Khan had already announced months ago that the Aanand L Rai directorial starring Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma will be releasing during that time, two other films have joined them.
According to reports, Ranveer Singh’s next after ‘Padmavati’, the remake of Telugu film 'Temper' directed by Rohit Shetty, has also booked the same date.
While the makers of the film are yet to confirm the news, another movie ‘Kedarnath’, the much anticipated debut of Sara Ali Khan opposite Sushant Singh Rajput has been confirmed to release on 21 December.
We have to go all the way back to Diwali 2005 when a similar situation happened, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Garam Masala’, Salman Khan’s ‘Kyon Ki’ and Sanjay Dutt’s ‘Shaadi No. 1’ had released on the same day.
It would be interesting to see if any of the three films change the release dates to avoid a clash.
