Pets, kids and life: The Aamir way

A friend for life, Aamir Khan was present at the book launch How to be Human: Life lessons from Buddy Hirani by Manjeet Hirani, the wife of Rajkumar Hirani.

And at the launch, he revealed a secret. “I’m the most indisciplined man on earth,” he said, to shocked responses. “However, owing to the work pattern of this industry, I’ve become disciplined. I owe the attitude to my profession.”

The perfectionist adds that he can multitask well, though. “I also always like to live in the present — I don’t ponder over the future or past at all. Whenever I’m working on a particular thing, I love to finish it and concentrate on it with the best of my abilities,” he added.

The book that Aamir launched was based on Buddy, the Hiranis’ pet dog, and Manjeet also spoke passionately about it. Aamir added, “We have both dogs and cats in our home. The dogs are close to both Kiran (Rao, wife) and my son Azaad. However, the cat we call Imli, is always running after me, and loves to be around me when I’m at home. She probably knows the reason better but Imli loves me more than anyone in the family,” he grinned, adding that while he’s bad at naming pets, he will learn to give them ‘happening’ names.  

He also had knowledge to share about kids too. “Children are very smart. They are also very manipulative, and try to blackmail their parents and elders, to get what they want. We also get influenced by them and give them what they crave for,” he laughed.
