Amitabh Bachchan's tryst with a classic melody
After Amitabh Bachchan sung and danced to Badumbaa in 102 Not Out, yet another song of his from the film has hit the market. This time the megastar has sung the classic Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Sitam from the 1957 Guru Dutt movie Kaagaz Ke Phool, which has crossed over 1 million views.
Had it not been for the completion of the album for the movie, Mr B would not have sung this song. “The music company said that it needed at least four songs for the album to be complete, and there were only three. So they asked if I could sing Waqt Ne Kiya… to complete the album. And since the song has a reference in the film, I agreed. We are now using this as a promotional song for the film,” said the Paa actor.
Amitabh goes on to admit that he is a huge fan of the original film and the song. “Guru Dutt was a genius. I loved his work and Kaagaz Ke Phool has been an eternal favourite. The story, music, moments and presentation is so incredibly unique, aesthetic and moving. This song in particular is about unrelenting love, which is unsaid and silent. Even the picturisation is iconic, right from lighting the mood to the feel,” he says.
The actor further lists another USP of the song. “It is filmed on my idol, Waheedaji. Whom I have admired even before entering this Industry, it is just perfect.”
Probe him on how he was able to carry those intricate undulating notes of the classic song, he quips, “The notes I carry are manufactured by the very efficient auto-tuner machines!”
