John Abraham to play footie again
Bollywood actor-producer and football enthusiast John Abraham will soon play the role of footballer Shibdas Bhaduri in his next, 1911. Bhaduri captained Kolkata football club Mohun Bagan in the historic 1911 IFA Shield Final, where they defeated the East Yorkshire Regiment with a score of 2-1 to become the first Asian team to win the competition. The biopic is very close to his heart as it is based on his favourite game.
Earlier, it was learnt that 1911 will be directed by John’s frequent collaborator, Shoojit Sircar but later the director had to opt out from the film. A source close to the actor reveals, “John Abraham wanted to make a film on football for a very long time but he felt that it was going over-budget. So he had shelved it for two years and is now scouting for a director.”
This is the second time that the actor will be seen playing a footballer onscreen. He has previously played a soccer player in 2007 film Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, which did not do well at the box office. John is also producing 1911 and the actor claims that the film will be notches above his two previous productions Vicky Donor and Madras Cafe.
