Notices put up on Mamta Kulkarni, Vicky Goswami's flats
Mumbai: The Thane police team has stuck notices on three flats belonging to Mamta Kulkarni in Versova, Mumbai and one house of the alleged narcotics trafficker Vicky Goswami in Ahmedabad. They are both wanted for their alleged involvement in the April 2016 case of seizing Ephedrine worth Rs 2,000 crore from a Solapur based pharmaceutical firm. According to the police, Ephedrine is a precursor chemical that used in making banned synthetic drugs.
According to the notices addressed to Kulkarni and Goswami, both have been asked to present themselves before the special court by July 10, failing which the police will seize their properties. ACP Bharat Shelke said that the accused duo’s non-compliance with the instructions might even make the police initiate proceedings for the issuance of Interpol’s Red Corner Notices against them.
Both Kulkani and Goswami have been declared proclaimed offenders in the Rs 2,000 crore drug bust case by the Sessions Court on Tuesday, following which the Thane police stuck the notices on Wednesday. It has been said that Mamta had bought these flats in Versova through a realty firm, Oscar Builders Pvt Ltd.
On Tuesday, special public prosecutor Shishir Hiray said that the judge, HM Patwardhan has issued the standing warrant under the Section 82 of the CrPC, declaring the accused to be proclaimed offenders. Hiray said that this order would give the police the power to arrest the accused anywhere in India and other law-enforcing agencies in foreign countries, within 30 days from the date of the order. Police will also have the power to seize moveable as well as immovable properties of the accused and a warrant can be executed by affixing it on the last known address of the accused.
Last year, the Thane police had sealed eight of Kulkarni’s bank accounts holding '93 lakh, at different branches of banks in Nariman Point, Parel, Dharavi and Malad in Mumbai; Kalyan and Badlapur in Thane; and Bhuj and Rajkot in Gujarat.
