Nawazuddin Siddiqui speaks out on racism
Versatile actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the busiest actors with a schedule that is jam-packed. This outsider who found his foothold in Bollywood reveals the racism he had faced at the beginning of his career.
“It was too difficult for me as an outsider. Often people would say that I didn’t look like an actor since I didn’t have six pack abs nor was I tall and handsome. People judge me on my appearance,” Nawazuddin Siddiqui said.
He further added, “It’s more like racism and not nepotism, and it’s all over not just in this industry. Even in my native place, people used to say that when one gets a wife, he should make sure she is fair.”
There was a time when he didn’t have any films on his plate, but today he is doing well for himself. Nawaz says the industry has recognised his talent.
“This industry knows my worth, and they pay me accordingly. I don’t want to be the highest paid actor. I only want to do varied roles which I am doing, fortunately. You get what you deserve, and this place has given me quite a lot,” he says wisely.
The actor is busy promoting his film, Munna Michael.
