Rohit Shetty closing in on Dada Kondke's record
The maker of eight hit films that are in the Rs 100 Crore Club is within striking distance of the maker of nine Marathi films that hit the silver jubilee mark.
Dada Kondke, well known as a director of reknowned Marathi films had made it to the Guinness Book of World Records over 25 years ago for being the only filmmaker to deliver nine silver jubilee hits in a row.
For those who came in late, silver jubilees were when a film ran in the theatres for a consecutive 25 weeks.
More recently, with the ‘jubilee era’ being replaced by the Rs 100-crore-yardstick, Rohit Shetty is inching closer to emulate Dada in the record books, even as he has set a record for being the first Hindi filmmaker to give eight consecutive hit films.
Incidentally, all his films have crossed the Rs 100-crore mark, the worst of the lot being the Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer Dilwale which did not do as well as was expected.
“Like Dada’s films, Rohit’s films are also targeted purely at the masses and he makes no bones about it. He is clear that he is here to entertain the audiences and that is one reason why he manages to give back-to-back hits,” says a trade analyst.
Rohit is next expected to make Sooryavanshi which is on the life of former ATS chief Raghuvanshi. Based on an idea by late writer Jalees Sherwani, the Akshay Kumar-starrer has been bankrolled by Karan Johar.
