Why Vijay chose Malta

The filmmaker adds that Malta has another thing that India lacks. The cake is very good there; it's called Mdina,†he chuckles.

Given that Thugs of Hindostan has been shot in Malta, where some portions of the Game of Thrones series have also been shot, comparisons between the two seem inevitable. But director Vijay Krishna Acharya says that they share a few locations, and the similarities end there.

“I know that Game of Thrones has been shot there, Pinewood Studios London and Malta Film Studios have a partnership of sorts. Some underwater sequences in the James Bond films have also been shot in Malta because there’s proper infrastructure available. I used Malta as a location to shoot a lot of my action sequences, and that’s because we don’t have the kind of setup that Malta Film Studios does. They have a world-class facility,” he says.
