I'm a woman who takes chances, says Neha Dhupia

Neha Dhupia, who started off as a lead actress and later on went to do character roles, seems unaffected by the success of her contemporaries.

Ask her how she feels seeing her contemporaries doing well, and she says, “I think the worst thing to do is to compare yourself to others. It’s the shortest route to go to hell. There are contemporaries of mine who I started off with, and we all came into the industry together like Lara (Dutta), Priyanka (Chopra), and Celina (Jaitley). All of us started our careers together. It will only be fair for me to compare myself to women like that.”

She’s quick to add, “I think having a beautiful family and children is also a huge moment to be proud of and some have taken that way.”

She’s been around in the industry for quite long now and has seen the industry evolve over the years. “I think times have changed recently,” she reminisces, talking about how all sorts of roles have become important now. “I saw Secret Superstar and Aamir (Khan) did not play the lead in it, so I rest my case.”

Neha, who started off her career decade ago, believes that she will definitely get her due as an actress, eventually. “It will happen, I promise myself it will happen. If people think I am good, it will happen and if it doesn’t, there is only one person to blame - and that’s me. I have been here long enough and people have been wonderful. It’s just a matter of time, as this industry is a good leveller. I have too much gratitude as I have come a long way and can rest in peace,” she affirms.

The actress will be seen sharing screen space with Vidya Balan in Tumhari Sulu. Talking about playing Vidya’s boss, Neha says, “This film comes with a lot of promise. There are moments where you want to stand up and clap for her (Vidya). It’s a coming of age kind of story that shows no matter where you are, you are capable of doing much more. I am not too different from Maria, my character from the film. Here, she takes a chance with Vidya, and even in real life I am a woman who likes taking chances.”
