Ranu Mondal's kahani

Viral sensation Ranu Mandal’s singing went viral after she was discovered by a passerby Tapan at the Ranaghat railway station in Kolkata and the song Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai was uploaded on social media. She got her first break from Himesh Reshammiya in his film Happy Hardy and Heer.

“Whatever is happening with my life now is because of God. Jesus really loves me a lot and that is the reason why I am doing well today. No amount of gratitude will be enough. I am crying tears of happiness because of that and so is HR,” she says tears welling up in her eyes as she saw Himesh Reshammiya also with tears in his eyes.

She quickly adds. “If Himeshji did not give me the break to sing, I would not have been here at all.”

“I am thankful for the love that people are giving me and Himeshji for understanding my sur and will be forever indebted to him for the love that he has bestowed on me,” says the singer who has modelled herself on songstress Lata Mangeshkar’s style of singing.

The singer who sang Teri Meri Kahaani in the film tells her own kahani. “When I was singing, I never felt I could do this well as a singer. But god has blessed me with a good voice. I was always fond of singing. If I could not sing, I would feel uncomfortable. I tried to sing Lataji’s songs and god has helped me a lot. I want to sing further now,” says the Bengal based songstress.

“I have sung on stage earlier. I know what sur is. I had a lot of gap in between. I never stopped listening to songs. Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh, Kishore Kumar, Kumar Sanu or Sonu Nigam are people whose cassettes I have heard often. I tried to copy Lata Mangeshkar and learnt a lot from her singing,” she admits to her inspirations.

Ranu’s husband used to work as a cook at filmmaker Feroz Khan’s house. “But he never heard my songs. I have met people like Rishi Kapoor, Raj Babbar etc in those days,” she reminisces.
