Box Office: 'Rock On!! 2' is a disaster, fails to pick up on Saturday
Mumbai: The box office collection of ‘Rock On 2’ has increased tad bit in major cities like Mumbai and Bangalore but it is not just enough. Although the film has managed to grow by 20-25%, demonetisation has struck the film’s fate hard as the footfall was way less than other Saturdays.
Had the circumstances been normal, the film would have easily collected double the current collection amount - 2.5 crore nett in two days. The 2008 prequel ‘Rock On’, which was a grand commercial success, collected 25 crore nett and it is humanly impossible for ‘Rock On 2’ to reach these figures even if the market situation improves in the coming weeks.
Going by its Saturday business, the film can be considered as one of the flops of this year.
Ritesh Sidhwani, producer of the film, decided not to postpone the release of the film like other films did. In a recent interview he was quoted as saying, “We too thought about postponing the release date but it was too late. Considering ours was a wide release, we would have suffered because of piracy, had we shifted the Indian release date since the piracy laws in India are not too stringent…The small number that has seen the film, loves it and it is sad that the collection is getting affected because of these hurdles (domentisation).”
Prime Minister Modi, on Tuesday, announced that the government had decided to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes to curb corruption in the country and bring an end to free flow of black money.
