Inspired by strong women I've met while travelling: Anjali Patil

On the work front, Anjali also played a bold role in Pa. Ranjith's Kaala with Rajnikanth.

Having played a pivotal role in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya, the 31-year-old actress is set to work with him again in his social-drama Mere Pyare Prime Minister. In this film, the actress will be seen playing the role of an unwed mother who brings up her son single-handedly.

Talking about her role, National Award Winner actress Anjali says, “As a mother, I got to invent things like the kind of relationship I would share with my kid was friendly. We were so friendly that we would fight as well. Being a little older in an age in comparison to him, I possess little experience, that’s it. So, I treated him more like a friend and not at all like a kid.”

The actress who received rave reviews for her performance in Newton shares her experiences of facing the hard-hitting world by herself after running away from home at the age of 16.

“Moving ahead in life all by myself, I became independent and today I see myself as my closest person. I left home when I was just 16 and went through things that changed me. The changes that I observed made me stronger every passing day and every day has been learning for me,” says Anjali.

When asked if she draws her inspiration from some women apart from herself, the actress says, “Whenever I broke, I had nothing to quote. However, I do not know why but I have been inspired by two great personalities — Princess Diana and Mother Teresa. There are other women in my life whom

I come across while travelling. I find they have stories to tell and I find them much stronger and tougher in comparison to men. Not that I have anything against men. But, undeniably, I find these women as a hero themselves.”

So, being all by herself, does she believe in precautions are better than cure?

“Speaking frankly, we women always feel it is better to kill than kiss.”

On the work front, Anjali also played a bold role in Pa. Ranjith’s Kaala with Rajnikanth. Sharing her experience of doing films in the South, she says, “I learned Tamil and Telugu. For Kaala, I dubbed for my character. In fact, I do not like dubbing on my face at all so I learned the language and dubbed myself for my role.” The actress is now set to make a documentary and would begin its shooting towards the end of April this year.
