Dia Mirza gets candid
Dia Mirza, whose husband Sahil Sangha is producing Amazon Prime’s Mind the Malhotras, reveals how Hyderabadi food is an integral part of her relationship with him. “Sahil loves Hyderabadi food. It’s the way to a man’s heart. But I feel that food is also the right way to get to a woman’s heart. We both are good cooks. I always tell him that his alternate career should be starting a restaurant. He can be like a chef, because the way he presents his food is with so much passion and love,” she reveals.
The actress further adds that she and her husband have a close relationship with organic produce as well. “He (Sahil) grows and uses all organic vegetables, and we enjoy all kinds of vegetables. I love all kinds of beans and vegetables, but chilies I feel could be one of our favorite ingredients, especially really spicy ones.”
Switching gears from home to work, Dia opens up about trying her hand at being a producer. “I’m a very integral part of writing and casting. In fact, I take an active part in all the spheres of filmmaking. Bringing everyone together and getting things done, keeping everything sorted when we have to go on sets… I take care of both pre and post production,” she explains.
“I was very invested and involved while we were doing Bobby Jasoos, and I take great pride in doing so. If I have to clean the sets, I have done that too. So I really enjoy being an actor and a producer. It’s a teamwork and watching them working together making it tangible to reality; I do it all,” she adds.
Dia also spoke about working with a little girl in her upcoming web series Kaafir, which is directed by Sonam Nair. “You don’t biologically need to produce a child to become a mother. This child (on the show) had the most incredible ability to capture your heart and spirit; she is blessed to have emotional parents to allow her to really become who she is. She understood every bit in the show. She took care of every moment; this child was taking care of me, who played her mother in the series.”
And as for her own journey with having children, Dia says she has been thinking about it since she was 23 years old. “Marriage has nothing to do with having kids. I have always been a nurturer and loved children. But I think that there is a certain time and a child should be born, out of a deep desire and love. The right time will surely be when we all can invest our time in a child,” she concludes.
