Actors in legal trouble
An Indo-American company has filed a lawsuit against some Bollywood stars after they refused to perform at a concert in the US. The Vibrant Media Group, which caters to the NRI population in North America, has filed breach of contract cases against Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar and Prabhu Deva. The company reportedly paid $200,000 to Salman, $40,000 to Katrina and $36,000 to Sonakshi to perform at a show and the stars didn’t turn up.
“Singers like Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik and Usha Mangeshkar were also supposed to be a part of the show. But it was a no-show in September 2013 as Salman’s court case was going on. The lawsuit has been filed against the artistes and their agents as well. Matrix India Entertainment Consultants Private Limited and Yashraj Films Private Limited are also a part of the lawsuit as all these agreements were tripartite, involving the artistes thro-ugh the agency. Certain payments have already been made,” says a source.
The case has been filed before a Northern District Court of Illinois, Eastern Division, on June 10.
