Won't stop fight against open defecation after Toilet-Ek Prem Katha success: Akshay
Mumbai: Akshay Kumar's tremendous run at the box office, which has been going on since late 2015, continues with the success of his latest 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.'
Already crossing more than Rs. 60 crores in merely four days, the film is all set to enter the 100-crore club soon considering the largely positive response from critics as well as audiences.
After delivering three 100-crore successes last year, Akshay is set to score his second century of the year, following the success of ‘Jolly LLB 2’ earlier this year.
Akshay’s wife, former actress, writer and producer Twinkle Khanna’s tweet on the success of ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ relieving ‘constipation’ at the box office was termed as a ‘dig’ against the recent failures of Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan’s ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ and ‘Tubelight’ respectively.
While Akshay had shared a funny video with Ranveer Singh to celebrate the success, the superstar has shared another video, this time on a more serious note.
In the video, Akshay says that before he took on the project, irrespective of its success he wanted that the issue of open defecation be discussed in every household.
The film might have also worked its magic at the box office, but more importantly, it was uprooting the menace of open defecation, he asserted.
Citing a report from eight months ago that 54 per cent of Indian indulge in open defecation, he expressed his delight that the number had come to down to 34 per cent and he was hopeful that it can touch 0 per cent soon.
He also stressed that he was not going to stop talking about the issue post the release and success of the film and his fight would be on throughout.
He goes on thank every critic, who might have said three negative points about the film but also highlighted a positive point, every government which has worked towards eradication of open defecation, and even people, who called him out for doing government propaganda through the film.
He said the same people have also blowed whistles and clapped at the dialogues and be it 'taalis or gaalis', the mission against open defecation was a success.
He also thanked his friend and neighbour Hrithik Roshan by saying that the people who have watched the film know why he's doing so and that it would be a surprise for people who hadn’t watched the movie.
He also thanks the film fraternity for their support, but he also gets emotional towards the end of the video thanking his fans for gifting him this happiness on the occasion of Independence Day.
