Farhan Akhtar wants to screen new film for Yerwada jail inmates
Mumbai: Actor Farhan Akhtar wants to screen his latest movie, ‘Lucknow Central’, for the inmates of Pune’s Yerwada Central Jail provided he receives permission from authorities to do so. The film, which has been directed by Ranjit Tiwari, is inspired by the true story about convicts of Lucknow Central Jail who start a musical band. It is scheduled to release on September 15.
Farhan, who essays the role of one of the prisoners in the film, celebrated Independence Day on Tuesday at the Yerwada jail along with the Lucknow Central team and also released the first song of the film, “Teen kabootar.”
Later, DIG Prisons, Swati Sathe tweeted “@FarOutAkhtar Sir & @DianaPenty ma’am Great energy. All the best for the ‘Lucknow Central and future.” To which Farhan replied “@swatisethi4 Thank you so much for your time & hospitality. Thoroughly impressed by the reformative environment within the prison complex.”
When quizzed by reporters on whether there are plans to screen the movie for the inmates, he said, “We would love to show 'Lucknow Central' to them. We will talk with the jail authorities and try to get it arranged.” Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) Bhushan Kumar Upadhyaya, who was also present at the event, said they would surely try to arrange a screening for the inmates.The event also saw the presence of nearly 3,000 inmates.
