It takes a lot of courage and guts to be oneself and actor Ranveer Singh is a shining example of not following the crowd. The Padmaavat actor who is known for his sartorial dressing sense reveals that it took time to own this quirky style statement. “For the first two years, I wasn’t very honest when it came to my fashion sensibilities. I was still in the process of figuring out who I was and that reflected in my fashion choices,” says Ranveer, adding that the concept of appreciation and criticism was new to him in the initial days.

For the uninitiated, his style isn’t a product of constant attention but something that has been a part his personality since the childhood.  “I remember in school too, I was called atrangi because of my Mohawk, ear piercing, and baggy jeans. I have always been this way,” he recalls.

And with time Ranveer’s style statement is getting bolder. What others think or comment on his dressing sense no longer affects him. “Now, I don’t worry about being judged or influenced by other’s opinions. I have started making choices that are authentic especially when it comes to fashion,” says Ranveer.

So is this the reason brands love him and want him to endorse their product? He says, “Apart from acting which is my core, I am now recognised for my fashion choices. Fashion for me is an authentic representation of who I am. Therefore, associating with an apparel brand comes very naturally to me.”

On the work front, Ranveer who will be portraying Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan's 1983 feels honoured to have been able to lead an ensemble of characters that are so significant in our history. “It is based on the most glorious chapter in India’s sporting history – the world cup. It is my first biographical portrayal of an individual who is still out and about, doing such great work,” he says.
