Vir Das in a dark zone

The character is intense, has reservation and stays away from public appearances.

Actor-comedian-writer Vir Das after being touted as the first Indian to have his own original special on OTT platform Netflix is geared up for his next series, this time in Hindi in collaboration with filmmaker Nikhil Advani titled Hasmukh.

This would be the first time the multi-talented actor will be associated with a script that is dark, intense and a territory he has never delved into it. Other than writing the script in Hindi for the first time, he will be seen playing the titular role. It was challenging for Vir to play Hasmukh.

The character is intense, has reservation and stays away from public appearances. It was difficult for a man who is always surrounded with thousands of fans to play a role who is aloof from the public. To get into the skin of the character, Vir went into isolation cutting down to public appearances; stage shows and even abstained from attending family functions and gatherings. “When I read the character of Hasmukh, I knew he is absolutely the opposite of how I am as a person in real life. I had co-written the series and I knew it from the start that this role is unlike any other I have done. It’s dark, twisted, something people don't expect of me. And thus once I got into the character, I preferred to stay in it and I felt any distraction wouldn’t allow me the chance to stay true. So I preferred being by myself to stay focused,” said Vir.
