Post Pulwama, Kesari rides on patriotism
Even as other big filmmakers cancelled launch events — Salman Khan cancelled a Notebook event, Total Dhamaal cancelled their Pakistan release albeit at a loss of Rs 5 crores or more —Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar are going ahead with the trailer release of Kesari on February 21.
“A special preview has been kept and then the trailer will hit the social media on Thursday. It is not advisable to delay the trailer for a long time because it takes a while for the trailer to catch on and then the actors and the crew get on with the promotion of the film in the physical space through events and media interviews,” says a trade source.
Since the film is high with doses of patriotism — the film is based on the sacrifice of 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army who died fighting marauding Afghan tribesmen in 1897—the film trade also feels that it would not be wrong to drop the trailer now. “The nation talking about sacrifices of the jawans today. Kesari also talks about the sacrifices of 21 jawans over a hundred years ago. The makers had held on for a couple of days and then decided to drop the trailer,” says a trade source.
Starring Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra in lead roles, the film hits the silver screen on Holi, March 21.
