The film collected Rs 2.8 crores on the opening day and is all set to recover the investment that has gone in.

Mumbai: Irrfan Khan has impressed with his brillliant choice of films over the years and he seemed to have a picked up a winner again, with his recent film 'Hindi Medium.'

The had already made headlines with tremendous reviews coming its way before the release on Friday, with government officials among others also lauding the film.

Moreover, the tax-free status accorded to the film in Maharashtra and Gujarat, had just proved to be the icing on the cake.

These two aspects have also helped the film in earning close to Rs 2.8 crores at the box office on the opening day.

The slice-of-life comedy, directed by Saket Chaudhary, held a mirror in front of the society and threw light on how the ability to speak English has become a yardstick to judge people, prompting more and more people to enrol their kids to English-medium schools.

The film made on a a budget of Rs 22 crores, has already recovered Rs 15 crores from digital, satellite, music and overseas rights and needs just Rs 7 crores to break even.

The film, produced by T-Series and Maddock Films, also stars Saba Qamar, Dishita Sehgal, Deepak Dobriyal, among others.
