Insensitivity from those who make sensitive films
When no big contemporary or star was present at the funeral of late Bollywood superstar Vinod Khanna, his co-star in a few films Rishi Kapoor lashed out at the new generation for being insensitive to the actor’s demise.
Sadly however, while the veteran actor’s words did have a momentary impact, it seems that Bollywood is still a long way from paying respects to those who make their movies complete and the new generation of actors did not turn up in large numbers.
Rishi, however, made it a point on Thursday to be present at Reema Lagoo’s funeral. Aamir Khan who has been busy preparing for his role in Thugs of Hindsotan managed to not only go to Reema Lagoo’s house but also attended the funeral with his wife Kiran Rao. His former wife Reena Datta was also present. Mahesh Bhatt, who has worked with Reema in Aashiqui and Najaayaz, and was doing a TV show Naamkaran, with her was also present.
“She was doing my show Naamkaran. And she was the heartbeat of that show. The last time, when I said goodbye to her on the phone, I promised to meet her on the sets of Naamkaran because I was now free after my release of Begum Jaan. And she was looking forward to it. And it’s indeed tragic that I was to meet her today when she is no more in her home,” he mentions.
Kajol also made an appearance for her Kuch Kuch Hota Hai co-star. Sanjay Dutt, who gave out a sensitive statement about Reema Lagoo — the modern day Nirupa Roy — and talked of his bond with the actress, was still missing.
When contacted, Rishi Kapoor said that he was busy in a shooting (of 102 Not Out) and could not comment.
