Salman Khan's hat-tip to Raj Kapoor

The actor's role in Tubelight seems to be a gentle tribute to the showman.

While everyone is talking about the close resemblance between Salman Khan's new film, Tubelight, and the 2015 Hollywood war epic, Little Boy, there's one link they seem to be missing. That glaring kinship has lots to do with Raj Kapoor, rather than a little-seen Hollywood movie, which Sallu's new film adapts.

In almost every gesture in the teaser, and the newly-released song, Sajan Radio Bajaiyo, Salman pays rich tribute to Raj Kapoor's Eternal Tramp image from the classics, Awaara and Shree 420.

Tubelight director, Kabir Khan, doesn't deny the resemblance between Salman in the movie, and Raj Kapoor in the older movies. An ardent fan of the showman, Kabir seems to have constructed Salman's on-screen persona in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and now in Tubelight, to echo the sweet, guileless innocence of the late Raj Kapoor in his most famous roles.

Will there be a third movie in a trilogy, extending the Raj Kapoor influence, only time will tell.
