Another box office clash

Independence Day saw the clash of two big films at the box office — Akshay Kumar’s Gold, and John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate. By the following weekend, however, it was clear that both films had survived the clash. They managed to make over Rs 50 crore each, by Sunday.

Now, two more content-driven films are all set to face-off at the box office. Sharat Katariya’s Sui Dhaaga:Made In India and Vishal Bharadwaj’s Pataakha will hit silver screens on September 28. And though both films seem to be strong contenders, Sui Dhaaga has the upper hand at the moment, because it stars Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma. Meanwhile, Pataakha has powerhouse performers like Sanya Malhotra and debutante Radhika Madan on board.

“Both films have stories that revolve around familial relationships, and they’re both set in the interiors. Having said that, Sui Dhaaga will rely on its stars to give it a head-start as far as collections are concerned. Everyone’s looking forward to both films though,” a trade expert says.
