Painful taglines
We’ve heard of movies with similar names and similar posters in the past. Now, we’re even seeing similar taglines!
A recently-released poster of the Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao horror-comedy Stree features the tagline “Mard ko dard hoga”, which is surprisingly similar to the tagline of Kangana Ranaut’s 2014 film Revolver Rani, “Ab mard ko dard hoga”. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, the makers of Stree probably didn’t realise that we’d heard that line before.
Both taglines are very obviously inspired by Amitabh Bachchan’s dialogue from Mard, in which he says, “Jo mard hota hai, use dard nahin hota hai, memsaab.”
Interestingly, Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota is also the name of a film being directed by Vasan Bala. The film, a desi take on Bruce Willis’ Unbreakable, features actress Bhagyashree’s son Abhimanyu Dasani playing a man who doesn’t feel any pain. It will be premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival later this year.
“Filmmakers have a way of depicting what’s going on in the world. If a tagline is doing the rounds in real life, they pick it up. I won’t be surprised if more versions of it come up,” says a trade expert.
