Rajkumar Hirani’s digital foray

Despite having the year’s biggest hit, it wasn’t a good year for Rajkumar Hirani. The director was embroiled in the #MeToo controversy, losing his credit as the producer of Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga and being boycotted by a section of the movie industry. While the filmmaker was quietly seen at film festivals, he was also reported to have discussed a movie project that would star and be co-produced by Shah Rukh Khan. But so far, Shah Rukh has had no announcement.

But now the filmmaker has been approached to make films for two of the biggest OTT platforms. “Yes, both the big platforms have asked Hirani to make something for them. Hirani is someone who loves the big screen a lot more and has been brought up on a diet of films that come on the big screen. He may produce but not direct the said original films for the platform,” says an industry source.
