I am waiting for the other slipper: Kamal Haasan
I already got one slipper and waiting for the second one,” actor turned politician Kamal Haasan remarked, in a lighter vein, at the audio launch of actor and filmmaker Parthiepan’s upcoming flick Otha Seruppu (Single Slipper) that took place in the city on Sunday.
Kamal also narrated a small slipper incident to do with Gandhiji from Mahatma’s life from a book presented to him by Parthiban on the occasion.
The MNM head said he did not want to talk politics at a film event, but he was referring to slippers hurled at him while he was addressing crowd at Tirupparankundram assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu after he had said, ‘Independent India’s first extremist was a Hindu”, on the Mahatama Gandhi assassin Nathuram Godse.
‘Gandhiji was a superstar. While he was travelling on a train, a huge crowd had gathered to have a glimpse of him. He stood near the door and was waving at people.
One of his slippers had glided down and Gandhji immediately threw the other slipper also on to the platform. When asked he said, ‘what would I do with one slipper? Someone can use it as a pair and that’s the reason for my swift act.’
The Viswaroopam actor added with a pun, ‘I am a fan of Gandhiji. One slipper thrown by him has already arrived and I am confident I would get the other one also. I deserve that (laughs).’
Heaping laurels on Parthiepan, he said, “Heard Otha Seruppu is a film which has only one actor in the entire film. And Parthiepan has done the ‘solo act’.
I am sure Parthiepan will join the list of my favourite top actors like Tom Hardy and Robert Redford who played solo cast member in their films. I wish him commercial success as well when Otha Seruppu will become a ‘Jodi Seruppu’.”
Parthiepan said there were 12 movies in the world where ‘solo act’ was performed.
“But the specialty of Otha Seruppu is that the film has been written, directed, produced and acted by the same person and that is me. In that sense my film will be the 1st attempt in the genre followed by 12 movies.”
Others who graced the occasion include Bhagyaraj, Shankar, KS Ravikumar, Lingusamy, SR Prabhu, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Santhosh Narayanan and Resul Pookutty.
