No autobiography on the cards for Neena Gupta

Many people have approached me and asked me to write an autobiography: Neena Gupta

Actress Neena Gupta has been a source of inspiration for many Indian women, often choosing to take the less trodden path both in her personal life and in her professional life. Naturally, many are interested in knowing more about how this single mother has managed to overcome her struggles, but penning down her life story is not on Neena’s agenda at the moment.

“Many people have approached me and asked me to write an autobiography. I started writing it too, but it didn’t work out. I don’t want to divulge too much, but it just didn’t work out. Maybe, when the right time comes, I will write it. But not right now. It has to be organic, you should go with the flow. You can’t force yourself to write an autobiography,” she says.

The actress is best known for her work on TV shows like Saans, Siski, Saat Phere and Kamzor Kadii Kaun, is currently enjoying the success of her latest release Badhaai Ho. And in the midst of an ongoing debate on pay parity in the entertainment industry, the 59-year-old says that she’s happy with what she’s being offered.

“I don’t know what others are getting, but I know my own worth and I don’t listen to other people. I know where I stand. It’s a business, and you have to know your market value,” Neena says, adding, “I am not hesitant about speaking up when it comes to remuneration. In fact, I am very clear and the other party is usually hesitant. I ask the producers what their budget is, and I say yes or no immediately. I never have any second thoughts.”
