Mumbai: Bollywood has seen more of downs than ups in the year 2017. Superstars like Shah Rukh and Salman Khan, who have been ruling over the Box Office since so many years, gave back-to-back flops, thus proving that content and not superstar is the king of a movie. These movies gave us high expectations, but absolutely failed to match up to the standards. Here’s a list of the films:

A still fromA still from 'Jab Harry Met Sejal'.

1. ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’

An Imtiaz Ali movie, ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ starred two bankable actors, Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma. Just like any other Imtiaz film, this one too promised exotic locations, romance and lots of travel. ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ only had meaningless travel, for a romance that couldn’t be felt.

2. ‘Tubelight’

When Bhaijaan comes on screen, nothing else is quite required. After giving back-to-back hits in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Sultan’, came ‘Tubelight’, a bad adaptation of ‘The Little Boy’, by Kabir Khan. The film never worked in Salman’s favour as his fans also gave the film a cold shoulder, after being disappointed that they couldn’t see their Bhaijaan back on screen.

3. ‘Rangoon’

‘Rangoon’, a Vishal Bhardwaj film, brought together Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut. The film was in news for various reasons. One of them was about Shahid’s collaboration with his ex-girlfriend Kareena Kapoor Khan’s now husband Saif. Not only that, Shahid and Vishal might have been third time lucky had the film worked. But there was no scope, not only because of the flat plot but also because of the lack of relatability considering the era gone by. Maybe ‘Bloody Hell’ was just a hint the makers were trying to send, so that you could avoid the usage of this word after watching the film.

4. ‘Jagga Jasoos’

Now this was a very interesting movie. Directed by Anurag Basu, ‘Jagga Jasoos’ starred Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in lead roles. More than for professional reasons, the movie was in news for the turmoils in Ranbir and Katrina’s relationship. Like Shahid and Kareena during ‘Jab We Met’, it was being claimed that Ranbir and Katrina broke up during the filming of this movie, thus causing trouble in shoots and leading to the movie’s extended delay. But, unlike the Shahid and Kareena, this fact did not work in their favour, and it was rather the opposite, especially since the movie itself wasn’t great enough to attract people to theatres. Maybe next time avoid such ‘Galti Se Mistake’?

5. ‘Simran’

Kangana Ranaut gave back-to-back hits in ‘Queen’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, thus proving that she can carry a film on her shoulders. ‘Simran’ felt like ‘Queen’, which is why the expectations from this film were automatically at a high. But the movie was so slow, so stretched and such a yawner that it could never save Kangana’s sinking boat, especially after the debacle of ‘Rangoon’.
