Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films have never failed to leave an undying impression on cinema-goers. And with his last film, Padmaavat, becoming the eye of the Karni Sena’s storm, the film garnered worldwide attention. Its long bout of controversy egged people on from across the globe to watch the film — all of a sudden everyone wanted to know what the opus was all about.

So, we recently met some of the historical film’s character actors to find out Bhansali’s working style on set. With his penchant for perfection, how does the director go about his work? On condition of anonymity, one of the key artistes from Padmaavat said, “Indeed, he gets very angry on the sets. But this is because he needs the shot to be similar to his vision. There’s no scope for anyone of us to make any mistakes.”

So is Ranveer Singh also subjected to the director’s wrath? “Yes! Many a time he not only shouted at Ranveer but even told him, “Tere se nahi hoga, chal ghar chalte hai (this is not your cup of tea, let’s go home) and much more,” says the actor.

And what about Deepika Padukone? “Oh! She is his darling!” answer a bunch of them together.

Further, another source adds, “Deepika is really focused and tries to follow director Bhansali’s instructions carefully, leaving no room for him to get angry with her.”

All praises for the Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam director, the actors comment, “He explains everything to all of us very calmly and with heartfelt enthusiasm. But after having explained it to us several times, if someone makes a mistake, as a human being anyone will get irritated. So we feel that Bhansali, being a perfectionist, is not wrong. There is no harm in getting angry if while performing an actor repeatedly makes mistakes.”
