Dazzling debut
The venue for the recently concluded fourth season of the Godrej L’Affaire, the Godrej Group’s curate experiential lifestyle platform, glittered with the sparkle of lights. The who’s who of fashion industry cheered on the first-ever fashion show of ace couturiers Monisha Jaising and Shweta Bachchan Nanda’s luxury prêt fashion label, MXS.
The event was named ‘Aarambh’, which means ‘new beginnings’. Showing up on the sidelines in support of Shweta’s first-ever fashion show for MxS was her mum, Jaya Bachchan. The street-inspired couture collection had sportive elements and fabric mash-ups.
Prodigy to partner
Elaborating on the collection, an excited Monisha explained, “Our summer collections covers everything, and in it, we have transformed a waterbody into a tropical Island against the setting of a beach party. The models wear clothes that can be worn to a beach club party, the city, a lazy afternoon lunch or even late nights.”
Incidentally, it was Monisha, the globally acclaimed designer, whose designs “exude a feminine seduction with an interesting blend of western and eastern details” (as per their company website), who taught Shweta all about the trade.
“But it’s funny how Shweta keeps saying that I taught her to design because when I look at it, MxS is actually designed by Shweta — I am just the producer of the collections she designs. However, this just goes to show how good a student Shweta is,” says Monisha, showering praises on her erstwhile ‘student’, adding, “Shweta began as a novice but with this style and talent that she owns she has just bloomed into a beautiful designer. She’s pure talent.”
Adding how she’s happy she made the most of having Shweta with her, Monisha says, “I am happy I capitalized on it. And I mean it when I keep saying that I struck gold with her.”
