Eijaz Khan goes rustic for Yeh Moh Moh Ke Dhaage

After receiving average success in his last venture, Eijaz Khan is now playing an interesting role in his next show. Yeh Moh Moh Ke Dhaage will see him donning the role of a sarpanch who eventually falls in love with a younger woman. We caught up with the actor and got him talking on the show and more. Excerpts from the interview...

You have always played sauve characters on screen. However, Yeh Moh Moh Ke Dhaage presents you in a rustic avatar. What do you think about this drastic transformation?
The show is light-hearted and is quite a break from the kind of roles that were offered to me. Although, I wish to be casted in an out-and-out comedy show. I want to do that not only because of health reasons but because I am a funny person. The audience, however, likes to see a broken man who rediscovers himself when a woman enters his life. Then the audience wants to see a child who will make them smile and want them to be together.
 
You are playing a sarpanch in the show who will eventually fall for a much younger girl. Isn’t this older guy and younger woman formula done and dusted?
I don’t know if it has been done numerous times in the past, but I’m sure we will do it with a lot of more dignity, we will be presenting the show in a refreshing, new manner — and from what I hear in the script, it becomes imperative for the storyline. Everyone has the right to take any decision within the boundaries of morality — the same stands for the characters in the show. In Yeh Moh Moh Ke Dhaage, it doesn’t come across as an older guy romancing a younger girl; it just becomes necessary for the story to move ahead.

Career wise, do you think a show like YMMKD is a smart move?
My decisions are my decisions and are not a reflection of my insecurities. I’ve never been selective of my roles. Most of the times I just go with the flow. For instance, Balaji happened to me,  when I went to meet my brother’s friend, and I went with the flow. At the end of the day, if I feel good about something, I will go ahead with it.
 
Things haven’t been looking good on the personal front. Have you found someone you can grow old with?
When you are a public figure people are bound to question your decisions; and I have accepted that. However, I would like to correct something here. All of us have ups and downs and nothing is permanent. I have left everything on God and moved on.
 
Are you content with the way your career had shaped up so far?
Firstly, I should’ve invested more time in getting an understanding of my craft. Since I had little understanding of that, I would go and sit at the edit table to see other people’s shows to understand how they would keep up and then learn more. Looking back, I feel that was my schooling. After that, I did a little theatre and got a real understanding of what acing is.
