Year-ender 2017: Five sequels that stole the show this year
Mumbai: Sequels are often believed to be a bad remake of the previous installment, which can never match the standards created. 2017 however seemed to be a very different year when it came to sequels, since we saw not one or two but five sequels spread their magic on the audiences and become an instant hit. Of course the previous installments of these were liked majorly, but the sequels that came out this year were treated with equal warmth and love, and most of them totally deserved it. Here’s the list:
1. ‘Judwaa 2’
Varun Dhawan replaced Salman Khan in the movie, but David Dhawan also kept a scene where Salman reminds people about who is the original ‘Judwaa’. Keeping the essence of his characters Raja and Prem intact, David gave a good new packaging to his own film.
2. ‘Golmaal Again’
Rohit Shetty has become a brand thanks to ‘Golmaal’ and ‘Singham’. So when it came to making the fourth instalment of ‘Golmaal’, titled ‘Golmaal Again’, he made the story a little entertaining, thus keeping his audiences happy and box office ringing.
3. ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’
Directed by Shashank Khaitan, ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ is the sequel to ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’. Shashank changed the plot, but the core emotions were on point, which helped in giving the movie a boost.
4. ‘Jolly LLB 2’
Akshay Kumar stepped into the shoes of Arshad Warsi, for a courtroom comedy-drama that was much loved. Akki did the role with such ease that there were no second doubts about the movie.
5. ‘Fukrey Returns’
‘Fukrey’, when released in 2013, was a sleeper hit. This year when ‘Fukrey Returns’ came to theatres, people again connected especially with the character of ‘Choocha’ and ‘Bholi’.
Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, a sequel to the 2010 blockbuster ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ also released on 22nd December and has already received a lot of love.
