Celebrities walk for a cause

Karan Johar also made an emotional appeal to the celebrities present at the event.

Celebrities like Karan Johar, Sonam Kapoor, Shweta Bachchan among others walked the ramp for designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. The show, Inheritance - An Ode to the Textiles and Embroideries of India, was in the aid of Cancer Patients Aids Association.

Making it an extravagant fashion show with all their panache, the trio walked for the cause with Kalank’s latest song Ghar More Pardesiya playing in the background.

Sonam looked stunning in an ivory-gold Chikankari lehnga with her hair pulled back.

Karan Johar also gave an emotional speech from the ramp. He said, “Walking today is more than just walking for fashion or walking for their immense glory. It’s actually walking for a cause and CPAA that actually completes its 50 years. Unfortunately, as we know cancer is a looming reality and has plagued the world and we have lost millions of people to this disease. I know it personally, I have even lost my father to this disease. And I know the kind of turbulence and the kind of hardships families across the world have gone through combating this. So, the cure for this disease which has come a long way in the world of medicines is truly something that I find admirable.” Urging the audience to do their bit, Karan said, “All of you with deep pockets here, please dig into those deep pockets and make sure you contribute to this cause; combating this disease is something that's the need of the hour and every effort made in that direction will save a life. So, all of us not only want to reach out to your pockets but also hearts.”

Using materials from Bandhini tie and dye, Banarasi tissues, jamdanis and khadi to Assam weaves and Kanjeevaram silks, it was truly an ode to Indian textiles. Talking about the collection, the designers said, “We have sourced the most exquisite fabrics and textiles from across India, from leading weavers and companies. Each an expert in a particular weave. These fabrics form the DNA of this collection. Our flight of fantasy to take our inheritance and create beauty.”

Talking about CPAA the designers said, “It is an immense honour and privilege to work with CPAA for the third year in a row. Their work to empower and heal people and families affected by Cancer is unsurpassed. As they mark 50 years of committed service to the community, we are delighted to be a part of this event. Cancer is treatable and beatable. Let's all be a part of this fight."
