Neil Nitin Mukesh in uniform for the first time
Dussehra starring Neil Nitin Mukesh and directed by Manish Vatsalya finally comes out today, nearly five years after its completion.
Talking about the release, Neil, who hasn’t played a solo-lead for a while, says, “The film is about the fight between good and evil. It has been pending release for a while now, so it’s great that it’s finally releasing. The team has been at it to make the release possible.”
The film has the actor playing a cop for the very first time in his career, and he calls it a huge responsibility. “It is not easy to wear the uniform. Big stars have done it in the past and stepping into their shoes is not easy,” he says, adding, “The film deals with the delicate and important topic of women empowerment.”
Neil made a striking debut with the film Johnny Gaddar in 2007, but things haven’t exactly gone great for him since then. The actor hasn’t given up hope, though. He says, “It takes time to make a name for yourself, and I am trying to do that. Everyone should be happy with their careers. I have had some great highs and some real lows. I guess the good parts have nullified the effects of the bad ones; they’ve made me strong enough to believe in my abilities. I have been a part of some fine films, and I have been working continuously. I am just waiting for that one Friday that will change my life.”
The big break that he’s hoping for could be just around the corner as the actor will soon be seen playing a negative role in the Prabhas-starrer Saaho. He says, “It is one of the most exciting projects that I am doing. Over 60 percent of it has been completed. We’ve just shot one of the biggest action sequences in Indian cinema. We are simultaneously shooting in three languages – Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, which is why it is taking some time.”
